GovFresh Awards 2011

GovFresh recently completed its 2011 GovFresh Awards and CitySourced won Best Civic Start-up and tied for App of the Year. The awards showcase all of the city and local leadership and great civic technology work that’s been developed throughout the year. The GFAs strive to highlight the best and brightest, help better connect citizens with government, provide city and local governments better visibility to into best practices and emerging technology, and create a general conversation around how government and citizens can make government great.

Harford County, Maryland Launches App

Harford County residents now have a more high-tech way of reporting potholes, dead animals, flooding or other problems to the county government. Residents with smartphones can get a new mobile app called “Harford County Connect” to inform county officials of their public issues. The mobile app, unveiled by Harford County Executive David Craig, allows users to take photos, record video and audio of a problem, and automatically provide GPS coordinates. After the report is submitted, users can track all reported problems on a map as well.

Web and Digital Government Achievement Awards 2011

SACRAMENTO, CA e.Republic’s Center for Digital Government has announced the 2011 winners of its annual Best of the Web and Digital Government Achievement Awards.

In its 16th year, Best of the Web (BOW) recognizes outstanding government portals and websites based on innovation, functionality and efficiency. “The goal of every government website is to provide online services and information to constituents,” said Cathilea Robinett, executive director of the Center for Digital Government. Corpus Christi’s Mobile CC, powered by CitySourced, was recognized as a leader in Government-to-Citizen City Government Category.

Steve Jobs’ Influence on CitySourced

Most of you, and especially those in the tech world, have heard the news that we lost one of the great ones. The passing of Steve Jobs will bring many articles and stories about his legacy. Many will describe how his vision and the Apple technology drove our society into the greatest technology era ever. But, that’s not the focus of this post; instead, I’d like to discuss how Steve Jobs personally influenced us here at CitySourced. Our CEO, Jason Kiesel, said it best:
